Epos Now’s cloud-based system scales to meet the challenges of the Boxpark movement, affording independent retailers and hospitality businesses an accessible and affordable opportunity to showcase their brand.
Boxpark is touted as the ‘world's first pop-up mall’ fusing the concepts of the modern street food market and the pop-up retail mall. Boxparks Head of Retail, Agee Rose explained the concept and how it has evolved and developed in their Croydon, Shoreditch and soon to be opened Wembley site.
“What we’ve learnt over the last 5 or 6 years is the food and drink came into its own so when we got the opportunity to open another site in Croydon we focused on the food, drink and events element. It’s all about eat, drink and play.”
“The economy is changing so fast you have to keep up with it. Our business model has to change, adapt and evolve. The customer needs and the customer experience is always paramount so you have to listen to what they want.”
By day, Beatbox is a multipurpose events space serving coffees and pies from award-winning bakers, Pieminister. By night the area is transformed into an intimate nightclub space, fashioned like a recording studio that promises a whole host exciting acts in the coming months.
“How could we progress from a regular bar to somewhere people really wanted to spend time in? With Shoreditch, it’s a name of its own with a different demographic. What’s different is that it's a communal space. It’s not just coming here to eat drink and play, it’s also a workspace. You could literally stay here all day. Beatbox is all-encompassing and that is what we were trying to create.”
Epos Now supplies a number of terminals and ipad solutions across the Boxpark Shoreditch site. The user experience is key to a smooth hassle free transaction for the customer. Bar Manager, Chris Burns is responsible for all the bars on site;
“I have 12 years experience in the hospitality sector. I think it’s one of the best POS systems I’ve used. End of night reporting is really straightforward compared to other systems and it’s really easy to feed that data back as sales reports to managers.”
“We are able to look at reports on an hourly basis, checking during the night to see how we’re getting on to see which bars are doing well. From a staffing point of view, the site that we have here is quite spread out across different areas. We’re able to put our strongest members of staff in those areas that are busy. Being able to divide them up during those busy periods is very useful. I can also check the data remotely using my phone from home, much to my girlfriend's annoyance!”
A huge thank you to Conor Slater, Epos Now’s Corporate Services Manager who was instrumental in successfully setting up Beatbox's systems ready for the launch.
