#MySkillsStory: Shah

#MySkillsStory is a campaign spearheaded by City & Guilds Group. It aims to showcase that learning new skills can transform your life, whether it’s helping you to land a dream job, progress in your role or improving at a leisure activity.

As a leading tech employer in the East we want to showcase some of the diverse roles and routes into tech. Today we meet Epos Now videographer, Shah Abbas.

#MySkillsStory: Shah

What is your role at Epos Now and what does that involve?

I'm the company videographer. I film and edit some company videos but my main role is creating weekly Youtube episode for Jacyn...you should subscribe by the way.

What previous education/work experience helped hone your skills to get you where you are now?

Education for this role? Spending exactly EVERY single evening and weekend consuming Youtube content as if they were Skittles and imagining whether I could do the same thing, if not better. I've never attended film school of any kind, just had a fire like desire to create films! And a beard...beards are just dope.

Have you picked up any new skills in your role?

I've definitely learnt more patience and understanding. What I found easy to do in front of the camera for my channel isn't the same for everyone. Some need more time and guidance to deliver you the content you need but inevitably, as with everything in life, it will happen if you WANT it to.

What skill is most critical and why?

The ability to view something from other perspectives is the most important skill. Creative content is subjective and what I think could be dopest shot anyone's ever seen may not hold any importance or interest for someone else. Also, knowing your goal is really important. You can shoot everything you need and have some mega time lapses...but if it has nothing to do with the story... you're just feeding the trash.

Can you offer any advice to someone starting out?

There's no such thing as a stupid subject. The best equipment costs exactly how much you have to spend. Your audience is a direct reflection of your work so if you don't have much of an audience...work harder.
