We sat down with Massimo Sirolla, Co-founder and CEO of Loyalzoo, the loyalty app enabling independent businesses to market their own brand, increase repeat business and boost spend per head. Fully integratable with your Epos Now system, this is another exciting step into the future of walletless shopping.


Who are Loyalzoo?

Loyalzoo is a digital loyalty card service for SMB retailers and eateries, which allows merchants to run their own individual loyalty scheme in-store without having to use paper or plastic cards - it is all digital.

Where are you based?

We are based in Chiswick, west London.

What is your business & how did it start?

We offer a subscription-based service that allows small and medium sized merchants to run a digital rewards program very easily and without requiring training. We started in 2013 after noticing how large retailers and brands were moving their loyalty cards to mobile apps, the web or other digital channels, and identified a large unserved market among independent businesses.

What are your core values & mission?

Our mission is to help SMB retailers increase customer retention. Many SMB merchants and restaurants have been hit hard by the various discount schemes, which let them acquire customers at a loss, only to find out that less than 8% will come back to pay the normal price. These discount schemes often annoy loyal customers too.

Instead, we help them run a slick loyalty program to reward existing customers, or “plug the hole in the bucket’.

Our main core value is “keep it simple”, which means we only implement new functionality if we find a way of doing so without requiring to train our merchant customers and their staff.

Why did you choose to work with EPOS Now?

What are your predictions for the future of loyalty apps?

We think that 3-4 years from now paper loyalty cards will no longer exist, and plastic will be limited to few large retailers or coalition schemes. Consumers want their wallets thinner, not fatter, and loyalty cards will all be app-based or messaging based (text, email, whatsapp, etc).

Do you have any advice for business’?

Technology services such as Loyalzoo make it very easy to run a loyalty program inexpensively, however it is key that retailers make an effort in keeping their rewards schemes simple to understand for their customers. Too often loyalty programs are complex with unclear ways of how points are earned and rewards redeemed. Simple and clear rewards programs are far more successful, and much easier to operate.
