National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week 2018 takes place from the 5th to 9th March 2018. It is an exciting opportunity to celebrate apprenticeships and how they benefit people, businesses, communities and our economy.

National Apprenticeship Week

Jake Purnell is Epos Now’s first Customer Service Apprentice. Working and learning within the Customer Engagement team, Jake is responsible for supporting our business customers with their EPOS queries. He joined the team in February 2018.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? What were you doing before you joined Epos Now?

I left school when I was 16 and started working as a plumber with a family member alongside completing a plumbing course. I have always been interested in sport and after I finished working as a plumber I started a sports course to further develop my skills. Whilst completing the course I decided that the time was right to look for an opportunity that would provide me with long-term career options and decided to apply for an apprenticeship at Epos Now.

What made you apply for an apprenticeship in the Customer Services team?

Epos Now was recommended to me by a family friend and when I researched the apprenticeship it was exactly what I was looking for. Epos Now is a growing company with lots of opportunities for people who care about helping customers and I could not let the opportunity pass me by.

You've been with us for a month now, what do you enjoy most about your role? What's the most difficult thing?

I really enjoy working as part of a team and have been able to take on more responsibility every week. I am empowered to take ownership of tasks and manage my own workload which is the first role I have had where I have been able to do this. I have found building up the confidence to speak to customers over the phone the most difficult aspect of my role, however each conversation that I have gives me more confidence.

Do you have a career plan? Where do you aspire to be in 5 years time?

My initial goal is to complete my apprenticeship and gain a L2 Diploma in Customer Services within the next year. After I complete my apprenticeship I would love to be offered a full-time role because I definitely see myself at Epos Now in 5 years time! There are lots of opportunities to learn and progress and everyone wants you to do well.

Would you recommend an Epos Now apprenticeship to someone looking to start their career?

Yes definitely. I'd recommend Epos Now to everyone looking to start a career in technology and customer service.
