The world's first pop-up mall, Boxpark is a community space in Shoreditch, fusing the concepts of the modern street food market and the pop-up retail mall. Roger Wade, creator of Boxfresh, devised the concept of refitting and repurposing shipping containers to deliver an independent and revolutionary retail experience. A unique and dynamic space for customers to “Eat. Drink. Play. Shop”, Boxpark provides independent businesses an affordable and flexible opportunity to showcase their brand, image and talent.
Boxpark houses a collection of retailers and hospitality businesses, with collectively shared spaces to host live events, including a centralised bar. The company reduces the barriers to entry for independents, offering them low base rates and a commission structure payable after a turnover threshold. This structure meant Boxpark needed a holistic view of the accounts of all businesses across the development. Epos Now’s cloud-based solution was an ideal way to empower independents with an insightful and intelligent system that would provide Boxpark with a comprehensive view of their tenants’ revenue.
Installing and setting up an in-house bar was also a new challenge for Boxpark’s Digital Director, Matthew Carter. The transparency afforded by Epos Now’s back office reports allows managers to identify potential profit deficits and make changes accordingly. By reducing wastage and eliminating the opportunity for theft, even inexperienced managers can improve stock control, reduce wastage and protect the profitability of the business.
Boxpark’s creator, Roger Wade, is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for independent brands and the future of retail. Roger has a long history of ‘thinking outside the box’ and believes SMEs need to be afforded the freedom to do what they do best. By implementing intelligent technology you can focus on the things that really matter, showcasing your products, providing great service and improving the customer experience.
“The days of legacy POS are dead. Expensive bespoke systems, like the ones at Tesco are over. The future for EPOS is a fully integrated omni-channel solution. The beauty of an Epos Now solution for an organisation like Boxpark is that you share the cost of the system across the businesses.” Roger Wade CEO Boxpark
The scalability of the cloud was also a big draw for BoxPark who have opened up a second site in Croydon and looking to expand globally in the coming years. A seamless, integrated EPOS solution with the ability to roll out across each site with ease is essential to improving the business performance of each of the vendors within Boxpark.
Epos Now’s Head of Service, Carlos Ramos attended the relaunch event, catching up with some of the vendors and presenting Matthew with a welcome gift to celebrate the partnership.
“It’s amazing to be such a central part of an exciting, forward thinking project like Boxpark. This pioneering spirit makes it the perfect partnership for Epos Now, a young company with innovation at its core. We look forward to welcoming new businesses onto the platform, improving the profitability of independents enabling them to thrive.” Carlos Ramos, Epos Now, Head of Service
